Alternate energy has been a passion of mine for more than a decade. During my time sailing boats around the world, I’ve known the vast energy that nature can throw at you. It has inspired me to imagine the ability to harness even a little bit of it such that it would benefit all of mankind. With momentum building for alternative energy, emerging technologies are making this more and more a possibility.
Every little bit of clean energy can help this planet. Our air and water as well as our food are becoming dirtier. If this tack is allowed to continue we’re going to go beyond mother earth’s power to gently heal her self. My commitment is to set a new course to make our planet better for our children. Reducing our carbon footprint though renewable energy sources is good start.
- Solar Energy – great technological strides have been made in this field. Solar modules that boast higher conversion efficiency than ever before. Thin film residential and industrial building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) roofing systems.
- Wind – I have seen how awesome nature can be. The power of Wind is a vital energy source to be harnessed.
- Hydro – The time of the grist mill are no more, But these age old technologies are coming into the twenty first century.
- Geo Thermal – Using the earth’s own heat to help with our own heating needs.
- Fuel Cells – Are expensive to mass-produce at the moment. I am keeping a close eye on what I think is the future.
- Alternative & Bio Fuels – Corn or switch grass, Ethanol 85 or Blue diesel, Biofuel 2.0 Burning Algae. There is quite a bit of movement in this field. One will come to the top.
- Last but not least, Hydrogen the great conductor. The only byproduct is ultra clean water. This could be the fountain of youth for all of us.
This is not to say that we must live without anything. Each of us working in our small way will put us on the new course toward a sustainable life. With solar on our rooftops and a wind turbine in the back yard, we can sell back to the grid (grid tied - net metering). There is also community power where a small group of people can produce their own electricity. Extra energy means those who live in the cities can also benefit from cheaper electricity.
Our world holds enormous power and endless access to natural clean Energy.
I propose charting a new course to energy independence. I owe this to my family, future generations, and especially my son. For him to know that I am using my time, talent, and resources to make this a healthy world.
