Vermont Creates Renewable Education Center

By Travis Williams

The Central Vermont Public Service Sector officials unveiled an education center in Rutland Vermont which will be used to educate the public on solar technology. The 264 standing solar panels will create over 50kW of energy to power 10 to 11 homes per year.

The center will not only provide a site for students and the public to see the energy being absorbed by the sun and how much greenhouse gasses are being offset, but will also include six museum style education displays while providing educational displays on wind and biomass.

The site will feature information to every age group, with plans to have self guided and formal tours for schools and the general public. Adding to the educational element, the solar facility was build and designed by students who helped install the solar panels.

According to the CVPS website, the $400,000 project was funded by CVPS, a rebate on insurance related to the sale of Vermont Yankee and a grant from the Vermont Clean Energy Development Fund.

We at Points North Energy are excited to see more educational opportunities to students who wish to learn about alternative energy. Coupling alternative energy and education is imperative to our future if we intend to live on a clean planet.
