Sustainable Eco-Tourism Works

By Travis Williams

An article by the Pittsburg Post-Gazette tells a story of a man by the name of Michael Lutzeyer who had a vision in the early 1980s to create a sustainable resort in the fragile ecosystem of Belize. He began with a modest investment which provided the means to produce small bungalows, giving guests a comfortable night sleep, at a very low energy cost. What started as an idea to create a resort, using very little energy and a low impact on the environment, became the spark for a new age of smart-eco travel.

The family has provided a great success story of a resort which has become both profitable and sustainable. Many hotels and resorts around the world are following this profitable switch to using green energy and lessoning their impact on the environment. It is a wise choice for resorts to use renewable energy because we have reached a point where tourists decisions of where to stay have become heavily reliant on whether or not the resort is using sustainable business practices.

At Points North Energy, we support resorts which work with the environment to provide guests with a comfortable and sustainable vacation. The implementation of wind, solar or geothermal energy into existing infrastructure can provide resorts with higher revenue and lessen the impact on the environment.
